This week, we will continue learning how to multiply larger numbers. We will use partial products (also known as the area model), the standard algorithm and the distributive property to multiply. Knowing multiplication facts will be extremely important during this unit. Please continue to review flashcards each night. Here are some videos to help you understand the different multiplication strategies we will use during this unit.

Homework- Homework will be sent home on Monday and due back on Friday. Please make sure your child is getting 20 minutes of iReady math this week for homework. Students are expected to get 45 minutes total of iReady math and 45 minutes of iReady reading each week. Some of this is done while in class, but we are usually unable to get the entire 45 minutes. Have a wonderful week! This week, we will begin multiplying larger numbers. We will begin using the area model, the standard algorithm and the distributive property to multiply. Have a wonderful week! This week, students will finish their Unit 1 tests on Monday. They will begin Unit 2 on Tuesday, February 12th. We will begin learning about factors (numbers multiplied together to equal a product). We will begin multiplying and dividing larger numbers during this unit. Knowing multiplication facts will be extremely important for students during this unit of study. Please continue to review flashcards each night.

Please have your child complete 20 minutes of iReady this week as part of homework. Thanks so much. Sign and Returns- Please send back sign and return papers on Monday if you have not already done so. Multiplication- Students should continue to practice flashcards each night for a few minutes. Have him or her work on memorizing the facts for the level he or she is currently on in class (Example: their 3’s would be (1 x 3, 2x3, 3x3, 4x3, 5x3, 6x3, 7x3, 8x3, 9x3, 10x3, 11x3, 12x3)). Here is the padlet that contains multiplication tests to practice with. https://padlet.com/watkinskr1/mult This week, we will continue working on adding and subtracting in word problems and estimating our answers. Students will also work on rounding numbers whole digit numbers to any place. We are continuing to learn about multi-digit whole numbers, that a digit in any one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right, read and write numbers to the millions in standard, word, and expanded form, compare two numbers using < and >, and fluently add and subtract multi-digit numbers using the standard algorithm. We will have our test on February 8th.
