I hope you had a wonderful break and were able to spend time with family and friends. If your child is going to be absent before or after the winter break, please let me know. We will be completing this math unit and finalizing grades over the next few weeks in preparation for the 2nd quarter ending and report cards being sent out.
Math- We will continue to review measuring and estimating liquid masses, volumes, and distances using units of measurement (grams (g), kilograms (kg), milliliters (ml), liters (l), meters (m) and kilometers (km). This week, students will begin to learn how to tell and write time to the nearest half hour, quarter of an hour, and minute. They will also begin to learn to measure time intervals in minutes over the next few weeks. Unit 6 Parent Letter: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Unit-6-3rd-grade-parent-letter.pdf Homework and Sign and Returns- Homework will be sent home on Monday, November 26th and due Friday, November 30th. Sign and returns will go home on November 29th. Multiplication- I am seeing that many students are struggling with their multiplication facts. It is my goal that students have these memorized by the end of the winter break. Please practice flashcards with your child each night for a few minutes. After the winter break we will begin longer division problems and students who did not have their multiplication facts up to their 12’s memorized really struggled during this unit last year. Have him or her work on memorizing the facts for the level he or she is currently on in class (Example: their 3’s would be (1 x 3, 2x3, 3x3, 4x3, 5x3, 6x3, 7x3, 8x3, 9x3, 10x3, 11x3, 12x3)). Here is the padlet that contains multiplication tests to practice with. https://padlet.com/watkinskr1/mult Have a nice week! Math- This week, we will continue to learn about measuring and estimating liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), liters, milliliters, meters and kilometers. Students will also be measuring to the nearest half and quarter inch. They will create line plots and graphs with their data. During this unit, students will learn how to tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. They will solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes. Students will learn to use a number line to identify how much time has passed.

The unit 6 parent letter below will help familiarize you with the things your child will learn during this unit of study. This week, we will learn about measuring and estimating liquid volumes and masses of objects using standard units of grams (g), kilograms (kg), and liters. Students will add, subtract, multiply, or divide to solve one-step word problems involving mass or volume. During this unit, students will learn how to tell and write time to the nearest minute and measure time intervals in minutes. They will solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes. Students will learn to use a number line to identify how much time has passed.
