I hope you had a nice weekend! Students will be unable to do iReady this week or next week. Please do not have your children go on iReady over the next 2 weeks. Thanks so much! Spelling- Sort 22, 23, 24. Focus on sort 22 this week. Students will have a spelling quiz on February 14th. Reading- We will continue looking at various passages to identify text structures: description, main idea, compare and contrast, cause and effect, sequencing, problem and solution. This week we will be reviewing all of the text structures in preparation for a quiz on Thursday. This kahoot will help students prepare for the quiz: 0279220 Writing- We will be starting our new unit on opinion writing this week. Students will be able to write opinion pieces on topics or texts and supporting a point of view with reasons. They will introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure that lists reasons. Students will provide reasons that support the opinion and use linking words and phrases (e.g., because, therefore, since, for example) to connect opinion and reasons. They will also provide a concluding statement or section. Grammar- Students will learn about comparative and superlative adverbs and adjectives. Science- We will be starting a new unit on fossils and will be learning about what paleontologists do. In this unit, students will learn to obtain, evaluate, and communicate information on how fossils provide evidence of past organisms. We will have a quiz on Friday. I hope you enjoyed your long weekend! Tuesday (January 22nd) is the 100th day of school!! If your child would like to dress up as if they are 100 years old they may 😊 Homework- I am sending homework sheets home on Tuesday. Please make sure your child is getting 20 minutes of iReady each week as well. Thanks Spelling- Sort 19, 20, 21. Focus on sort 21 this week. The spelling quiz will be moved to Monday, January 28th! This week we will be focusing on problem and solution and cause and effect text structures. Writing- We will continue working on our informational writing pieces where students introduce a topic, develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details, use linking words and phrases to connect ideas within categories of information and provide a concluding statement or section. We will also be reviewing constructive responses from the beginning of the year (TEACH). Please study the informational writing outline that is in your child's writing notebook with him or her. Grammar- We will be going over comparative and superlative adjectives. (comparative: bigger, superlative biggest) Social Studies- We are continuing our unit on Colonial America. Students will be learning about the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies. At the end of the unit students will be able to describe the physical geography of the colonies, identify key people and their roles in each colony, and give examples of how trade was used. Last week our focus was on the Mid-Atlantic colonies. We will be working on Southern colonies this week. Our Social Studies test will be Friday, January 25th. Upcoming dates and reminders:

Grammar- We will be going over how to use commas with quotation marks. Social Studies- We are continuing to learn about Colonial America. Students will be learning about the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies. At the end of the unit students will be able to describe the physical geography of the colonies, identify key people and their roles in each colony, and give examples of how trade was used.
