I hope you all had a wonderful winter break and were able to spend time with family and get some well needed rest!
Reading- This week, we will begin introducing the different text structures. There are 5 different text structures being discussed (Description/ Main Idea, Problem and Solution, Compare and Contrast, Cause and Effect, Sequence) Grammar- This week, we will be learning about commas and how they are used in a list, in addresses and in letters. Spelling –We will be focusing on sort 19 this week. Writing- We will continue working on our informational writing pieces where students introduce a topic, develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details, use linking words and phrases to connect ideas within categories of information and provide a concluding statement or section. We will also be reviewing constructive responses from the beginning of the year (TEACH). Social Studies- We are starting our unit on Colonial America. Students will be learning about the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies. At the end of the unit students will be able to describe the physical geography of the colonies, identify key people and their roles in each colony, and give examples of how trade was used.
