I hope you enjoyed the weekend. I know daylight savings was hard this weekend. 😊
Homework- There will be no homework this week since we earned a no homework pass for all of our Boosterthon pledges. Please send back sign and return papers if you have not already done so. Spelling- Sorts 28, 29, 30. Focus on sort 28 this week. The spelling quiz on this unit will be given March 29th. Reading- As we continue figurative language, we will also start to learn poetry. This includes dramas, folk tales, stories, and comprehend literature. They will learn lines and stanzas for poetry. There will be a quiz on Figurative Language on Friday, March 15th. The following kahoot is great to help your child review all of the types of figurative language we have learned (oxymoron, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, idiom, metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration). We have glued charts into their interactive notebooks as well. Kahoot Code: 093751 Writing- We will continue to work on opinion writing. Students are reading two articles about the same topic written from two different points of view. Students are then forming their own opinion about the topic using evidence from the articles to support their own point of view. Grammar- We are continuing to learn about compound sentences. Compound sentences have two sentences that are joined with a conjunction. Example- I read two books before going to bed, but my grandma read ten books. We will also be introducing coordinating conjunctions. Ex- for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so (fanboys). We will begin learning about complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions next week. Science- We are beginning our final science unit on heat. Students will be learning about sources of heat energy, carrying out experiments using different tools including thermometers, and understanding that heat transfers from hotter to colder areas until the temperatures even out. The School Governance Council would like to examine ways we can help all parents be more involved at Dolvin. Please take this short survey to provide the council with valuable information about how to improve opportunities for parent volunteering. Your answers will be anonymous unless you choose to provide contact information.
