Reading- This week we will discuss the 5 W’s; who, what, when, where, and why. Students will read passages and then answer questions that correspond to the 5 W’s. We will also begin working on asking deeper questions when reading texts.
Grammar- We will continue working on verb tenses; past, present, and future tense. Our class will also begin to learn about irregular verbs that do not follow the rules. Students will begin learning about helping and linking verbs as well. Spelling – Students will concentrate on the spelling patterns in Sort 11 this week. Our spelling quiz on these three sorts will be Monday, October 29. Writing – We are continuing writing personal narratives. Students are learning to write a strong hook to introduce the story, use transition words to connect main ideas in paragraphs, how to add more details to the story, and how to write a conclusion. Students will choose their best narrative to turn in as a test grade. Science- We will continue learning about pollution this week. Students will obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the effects of pollution (air, land, and water) and humans on the environment. Students will explore, research, and communicate solutions such as conservation of resources and recycling of materials to protect plants and animals. Students will have a quiz towards the end of this week. Please have your child start studying their interactive notebooks. Attention Lunch Visitors: Please be advised that Dolvin will not be able to accommodate lunch visitors beginning Friday, October 12th, through Thursday, October 18th, in order to practice and prepare for the 3rd Grade Musical.
