I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our school is looking forward to the Book Fair over the next two weeks. Please check your child's purple folder for his or her book wish list.
Reading – Students are continuing to read narrative passages to learn about the characters and to identify their character traits through direct evidence and inference. They are also learning how the setting helps to determine the kinds of characters that might be found in a narrative. We are continuing our read-aloud of the narrative Because of Winn-Dixie. Students have taken notes on each chapter. They may be having a quiz this week on what has been read to date. This will assess their listening comprehension and ability to gather evidence from a read-aloud. Grammar – We will continue reviewing plural nouns and begin working on using irregular plural nouns correctly in our writing. Spelling – Students will have their first spelling quiz on Word Sorts 4, 5, and 6 on Friday. They will be assessed on words from all three sorts for a total of 20 words. Later in the year this will increase to 25 words. Writing – We are continuing to read informational articles and use the TEACH method to write a constructive one paragraph response to each article. We will be starting Narrative Writing and brainstorming ideas for writing personal narratives. Science – This week we will be completing our unit on the Regions and Habitats of Plants and Animals of Georgia. There will be a final assessment this week. One of our school-wide expectations is to be respectful of others. Please remind your child that it is important to raise his or her hand to speak in a whole group and to listen and respect one other’s ideas. Your encouragement helps your child so much in adding to a positive learning environment. Dates to Remember: September 4-8 – Book Fair Preview September 5 – School Store Have a wonderful week!
